Basketball on vinyl floor with painted game lines

Gymnasiums are practical environments where you have to consider the functional needs. This does not, however, prevent you from also considering the aesthetic appeal.

Did you know that the appearance of a meticulously designed gymnasium helps to create an enjoyable experience? A successful project involves a great amount of thought, planning, and design consideration to achieve your objectives. Here are a few visual ideas which should be considered.

Play zones

We can integrate a delightful change in colour in regard to the layout of the different games that will be played in the gymnasium. One project that we worked on combined the sports needs with an innovative design that defined the play areas with attractive and easily differentiated play zones. In this particular instance, the decision was made to define each badminton court by using a different and contrasting colour. As you can see in the first photo, the result is both functional and beautiful while integrating a safe corridor around each court!

Here is another example of an exceptional visual effect in regard to the use of colours in the creation of the play zones. In the second photo, the basketball keys were coloured to draw attention to that area of the court. Defining certain areas of the sports floor is important to consider as it will create an engaging, captivating, and eye-pleasing outcome. It can be quite impressive to combine painted opaque colours and translucent stains in the same area!

Perimeter

It is very common to decorate the perimeter of a gymnasium floor by choosing a different colour from the main floor in the center. This contour configuration helps to draw the attention of the players and spectators to the sport taking place on the main floor. The existence of a perimeter also provides the ideal backdrop for lettering or the logo of your facility, which might be a desirable visual detail.

Logo

Add impact to your gym floor by including a personalized logo for your establishment. The graphic or design will be pleasant to look at and strengthen the image and identity of your facility. Logos are painted on the surfaces with specialized durable paints for permanent display. There is a large array of basic paint colours to choose from, not to mention a multitude of custom colours that can be made for extensive possibilities. Through the use of stencils, the result will always be of professional quality, regardless of the complexity of your logo.

Game lines

Game court markings are part of any gymnasium floor. The only consideration here is about choosing which games will be practiced in the gymnasium. The most common sports activities include basketball, volleyball, badminton, handball, and even tchoukball. Game lines can also bring visual appeal to a sports floor, driven by the variety of colours, shapes, and angles. The court game lines contribute to making the gym floor an appropriate space, allowing you to always be ready to start a match of your favourite sport.

Colours and textures

When creating a design for a new sports floor, it is nice to know that a wide range of textures and colours are available to you, facilitating the design process. No matter which type of hardwood you choose, it can be stained or painted, while vinyl flooring offers a multitude of pre-designed textures and colours to choose from. Mixing and matching colours and textures provides a vast array of creative design possibilities. Even unusual colours can create an attractive play area.

Details

Just careful attention to detail will make all the difference between a gym floor that is aesthetically acceptable or one that is exceptional. When changing from one flooring design to another, respect of matching patterns between the two adjoining materials can make a huge difference in the final appearance. For example, as seen in the last photo, our installers were careful to align the grain of the two different wood-look surfaces, providing visual continuity. All our installers are trained in this type of consideration.

No matter which flooring type you choose (hardwood, vinyl, etc.), it is always possible to creatively design the layout of your gymnasium flooring to make it visually interesting. Your only limitation is your imagination!
