Project context

The International School of Cambridge (ISOC), located within the Islamic Centre of Cambridge, aimed to develop a modern gymnasium capable of supporting high-level sports activities while preserving the comfort of classrooms located directly beneath the facility.

The project covered approximately 9,600 square feet and presented a unique challenge: delivering a high-performance sports surface while minimizing impact noise transmission to adjacent educational spaces.

Challenge and objectives

Advantage Sport was tasked with designing a solution that combines athletic performance with effective acoustic control.

Primary objectives

• Reduce noise transmission to classrooms below the gymnasium
• Provide a durable, high-performance multisport surface
• Ensure comfort for intensive physical activities
• Create a distinctive and professional aesthetic
• Integrate custom logos reinforcing the school’s identity
  

The challenge was to develop a multilayer system capable of effectively attenuating impact noise without compromising play quality.

Technical solution

Advantage Sport implemented a solution combining multiple complementary systems. A sound-control underlayment made from recycled rubber was first installed to attenuate high-frequency impact noise and limit sound transmission to classrooms below.

This substructure was then covered with a leveled plywood layer prepared to receive the final sports surface. Tarkett’s Omnisports PurePlay flooring was subsequently installed using the GreenLay method, ensuring stability, durability, and athletic performance.

The design features a Golden Maple court with a Night Blue perimeter, custom blue game lines, and two 10-foot logos, creating a distinctive and professional visual identity.

The project delivered a high-performance gymnasium meeting both athletic and acoustic requirements.
