Project context

Nashwaaksis Middle School in Fredericton has maintained a trusted partnership with Advantage Sport for more than 40 years, supporting the maintenance and evolution of its main gymnasium. This 30,000 square foot athletic facility serves as a central space for both school and community physical activities.

The history of the school’s sports flooring reflects the evolution of athletic surface technologies. Following the initial installation of a Uni-Turf system in 1977 and its replacement with Taraflex in 2001, the school reassessed its needs in 2019 to adopt a modern solution aligned with current safety, performance, and durability standards.

Challenge and objectives

Advantage Sport was tasked with completing a full replacement of the existing system while delivering measurable improvements in athletic performance and long-term durability.

The challenge was to modernize a large athletic surface while ensuring performance continuity for decades to come.

Technical solution

Advantage Sport performed a complete removal of the existing flooring before installing an Omnisports 9.4 system in Beech, combined with a Tarkolay underlayment, across the full 30,000 square feet. The Tarkolay system functions as a decoupling and moisture management layer, improving stability and protecting the longevity of the new floor.

Omnisports 9.4 delivers enhanced shock absorption, reliable traction, and strong wear resistance, meeting the demands of high-traffic school environments. This system combination extends lifecycle performance while improving comfort and safety for users.
