Georgina multi-use recreation complex (MURC)

Keswick, Ontario

Project context

The Georgina Multi-Use Recreation Complex (MURC), located in Keswick approximately 80 km north of Toronto, represents a major development for the local community. This new facility was designed as a multifunctional space capable of accommodating a wide range of sports and recreational activities under one roof.

The objective was to create a modern complex that promotes community engagement and healthy, active lifestyles. Advantage Sport’s mandate included the installation of a 16,000 square foot main gymnasium as well as the construction of an elevated running track surrounding the court.

Challenge and objectives

Advantage Sport was required to design and install flooring systems suited to a versatile, high-traffic municipal environment.

Primary objectives included:

  • Install a high-performance hardwood floor in the main gymnasium
  • Integrate a safe and durable elevated running track
  • Ensure compatibility between the different flooring systems
  • Provide a solution adapted to sports and community activities
  • Guarantee long-term durability and performance

The challenge was to coordinate the installation of two distinct systems within the same complex while maintaining cohesion, safety, and performance standards.

Technical solution

Main gymnasium: The 16,000 square foot gymnasium was equipped with a ClutchCourt Performance Core system, a hardwood sports floor engineered to deliver structural stability, shock absorption, and consistent ball rebound.

This system is particularly well suited to municipal environments hosting competitions, training sessions, and diverse community programming.

Elevated running track: The running track, installed on an elevated platform surrounding the court, covers approximately 6,300 square feet. Advantage Sport installed a PolyTurf Plus Pad & Pour (9+2) system in blue.

This seamless poured-in-place surface provides high wear resistance, continuous performance without joints, and impact absorption that enhances user comfort. The multi-lane configuration allows simultaneous use by different groups.

Results and benefits

The complex now benefits from an integrated athletic environment combining hardwood performance with resilient surfacing.

The benefits include:

  • High-performance hardwood gymnasium suitable for competition
  • Safe and durable elevated running track
  • Versatility for sports and community activities
  • Enhanced comfort through shock absorption
  • Modern infrastructure promoting community engagement

The MURC now stands as a major recreational hub contributing to the vitality and growth of the Georgina community.
