Challenge and objectives
Advantage Sport was tasked with installing a multifunctional surface meeting the accessibility requirements of a community recreation center.
Primary objectives
- Provide a safe surface for users with reduced mobility
- Eliminate joints to reduce tripping hazards
- Accommodate canes, walkers, and wheelchairs
- Ensure load resistance for a variety of equipment
- Improve visual clarity for users with low vision
The challenge was to balance accessibility, sports performance, and event versatility.
Technical solution
Advantage Sport installed a PolyTurf Plus Pad & Pour (9+2) system throughout both the gymnasium and walking track, featuring custom colours selected from Pantone and Benjamin Moore palettes.
This poured-in-place system creates a seamless surface particularly suited for environments serving users sensitive to floor irregularities. The two-tone design, with a lighter central area and contrasting perimeter, improves spatial perception and activity zone visibility.
The flooring also provides shock absorption beneficial to joint comfort, supporting walking and light physical activity for senior users.
Results and benefits
The project delivered a safe, inclusive, and versatile environment for the community.
The benefits include :
- Seamless surface reducing fall risks
- Improved accessibility for mobility aids
- Shock absorption enhancing joint comfort
