Gérald-Godin College
Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QuébecProject context
Located in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Collège Gérald-Godin sits directly adjacent to a river. Following a flooding event, water invaded the basement gymnasium, completely destroying the existing sports flooring.
The previous surface, an aging and heavily worn rubber system, no longer met performance or durability requirements. Immediate action was necessary to restore the facility and return the gymnasium to service as quickly as possible. The total project area covered approximately 7,600 square feet.
Challenge and objectives
Advantage Sport was required to respond quickly after the incident to restore a functional and durable athletic environment.
Primary objectives
- Fully remove the damaged flooring system
- Sanitize and prepare the existing substrate
- Propose a more durable and higher-performing solution
- Meet insurance-related budget constraints
- Return the gymnasium to service within a very short timeline
The challenge was to combine rapid execution, logistical efficiency, and long-term technical performance.
Technical solution
The day following the flood, the Advantage Sport team was on site to clean the gymnasium and remove the existing flooring.
An Omnisports 6.5 mm system in Grey Maple and Royal Blue was supplied and installed using the GreenLay method, recognized for its stability and durability. The GreenLay installation approach provided an efficient solution well suited to renovation conditions.
Through close coordination with supply partners, the new flooring was delivered and installed quickly. Less than two weeks after the flooding incident, the gymnasium had a brand-new sports floor ready for use.
The floor design prioritizes badminton courts, the institution’s primary sport. Grey Maple defines the playing areas, contrasting with Royal Blue perimeter zones. The exposed concrete walls enhance the modern aesthetic of the space.
